About Pena Palace
Pena Palace is the 19th-century royal summer residence perched on a forested hill above Sintra, 530 metres above the Atlantic. Its painter-bright yellow and red towers, Manueline cloisters, and Moorish battlements make it one of the most photographed buildings in Europe — and the first of the great Romantic palaces of the era.
Inside, the royal apartments are preserved almost exactly as the last Portuguese royal family left them in 1910: copper cookware in the kitchens, family photographs on bedside tables, monogrammed linen in the wardrobes.
The 200-hectare park surrounding the palace is a forest of camellias, giant ferns, and hidden follies. Most visitors spend 3–4 hours here in total.

- Train from Lisbon Rossio to Sintra (40 min). From Sintra station, bus 434 runs to the palace every 15 minutes.
- Accessibility
- Park paths are cobbled and hilly. A shuttle (€3) runs from the gate to the palace entrance. Inside, ground-floor rooms are accessible; upper apartments require stairs.
- Bag policy
- Small bags allowed. Large backpacks must be checked at the entrance — free.
- Photography
- Permitted everywhere except inside the royal apartments.

What's included in the skip-the-line ticket?
Entry to both the Pena Palace interior and the surrounding 200-hectare park, with priority queue access at the palace entrance. Your 30-minute time slot is reserved before you arrive.
When should I arrive?
10–15 minutes before your booked slot. Arriving earlier is fine, but you won't be let in before your time — and the slot is strict, so arriving late can mean waiting for the next available entry.
What if it rains?
Pena is open in all weathers and most visitors find misty or rainy days atmospheric. Refunds are not available for weather. If a rare closure is announced by the operator, we refund in full.
Can I change my date or time?
Once booked, slots are non-transferable and non-refundable. If you need to change, contact us at bookings@palaciopena.com — we'll help where we can, but cannot guarantee a new slot, especially in peak season.
How long is a typical visit?
Allow 3–4 hours in total: 45–60 minutes inside the palace, 90+ minutes in the park, plus travel to and from the gate.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes — kids generally love the fairytale exterior, the dungeons, and the cannons. Strollers are tough on the cobbles; a shuttle from the gate helps.
Is the palace wheelchair-accessible?
Partially. The park and ground-floor rooms are accessible via shuttle and ramps. The upper royal apartments require stairs and have no lift.
What's your refund policy?
Tickets are issued for a specific date and are non-transferable once issued. If your plans change, reply to your confirmation email at least 48 hours before your date and we'll do our best to move you to a new available slot.
